Thank you for buying Yacht racer’s mate. These instructions will take you through each of the screens and tell you what you are able to do. To hide and view these instructions swipe left with two fingers to hide or right with two fingers to reveal them on the buoys tab.
The Buoys tab gives you a list of all the buoys on your phone. Pressing the Add Buoys button allows you to add new ones. When you press the Add Buoy button you are prompted with fields for the name colour and location of the buoy.
The colour of the buoy is set using the following letters.
- O – Orange
- R – Red
- Y – Yellow
- B – Black
- G – Green
If you want a buoy that is Yellow-Black-Yellow you enter YBY etc.

The Lat and Long can be entered in a number of different formats depending on what you have.

If you have Degrees and Minutes you can enter them both. e.g. 50°47.454’
Alternatively if you have Degrees, Minutes and Seconds then you can enter them as all three. e.g. 50°47’25.4”

Press the circle to delete it.
The course chart will show you a plan of the course that you have to navigate. Your route starts at the start of the red line, and continues around the course from there. If you click on a Buoy either on this tab or on the Course tab it will give you the name of the Buoy, and then clicking on the button will take you to to Buoy Finder screen.
You may need to prepare the iPhone’s compass before using the Buoy finder by moving the phone in a figure of 8 motion. Once you have done this arrows will appear pointing to the location of the buoy. When you are facing the buoy you will see a box and the buoy you are looking for should be in the box. The accuracy of the Buoy finder will depend on the accuracy of the buoy location. You will also see the current bearing to the buoy, the direction you are facing at the moment, and the distance to the buoy.
The course tab starts operating when you press Start Plotting. It shows your heading and location, as well as your current position, and the course that you have travelled so far. It also shows you the current direction you are travelling projected forward. You can use this screen to determine whether you will make it around the next buoy, and to help you time your tacking.
This is a simple 5 min and 3 min timer to count down to the start of the race. The timer will be red before the race starts, and green after the start of the race, when it will count race time. For any comments or suggestions, or if you have a problem, please contact email@example.com.
